Barrus made their return to London Fashion Week with a striking show at Protein Studios in Shoreditch last Friday 21st February. A fan favourite during LFW, they impressed once again with a collection inspired by the ancient city of Ephesus – a once thriving metropolis of culture and a hub of the Roman Empire.
The hypnotic soundscape – combining traditional Turkish melodies with contemporary tunes – transported the audience to a world not too dissimilar to Ephesus itself, with the dimly lit runway mirroring the ruins of the former city.

Across thirty looks, the collection successfully reinterpreted the grandeur and duality of Ephesus. The structured silhouettes reflected the former city’s commanding architecture, whilst the flowing drapery and weightless fabrics imitated classical Greco-Roman garments.

The show opened with beautifully feminine, soft looks with intricate beading before transitioning into bolder, sharper ensembles. The passage of colours also felt highly intentional, as yellows progressed into darker oranges, echoing the sunset over Ephesus. Additionally, corseted waistlines and asymmetrical one shoulder drapes were also dotted throughout the collection, creating a feeling of drama and femininity.

The second portion of the show offered an ethereal feel, as soft neutral colours complimented the ethically sourced gossamer tulle and French lace. The models donned minimal makeup and natural curly waves, allowing them to embody the image of an ancient Greek goddess. The hand-beaded crystals and silver thread embroidery provided a further layer of intricacy, and cleverly referenced the mosaics present in Ephesus.

As a brand that values the importance of tradition whilst embracing the innovation of the future, this collection entirely embodied the fusion of the two worlds.
